Gov. Matt Blunt says money for the new state crime lab in Springfield will be a funding priority in his budget request to the Legislature next year. The governor held a news conference here on Friday morning to announce he'll ask for about $576,000 for the crime lab in the legislative session that starts in January.Blunt says the money is needed to train seven staff members. He says the crime lab will help ease some of the burden on the Highway Patrol’s crime lab system.
The crime lab is under construction in a city-owned building at the corner of Tampa Street at Benton Avenue. If all continues according to plan, it will be up and running by next fall.
