A Referendum on Photo I.D.?

Could yet another statewide referendum be heading to the 2008 ballot?

Sen. Delbert Scott tells the KY3 Political Notebook he is prepared to introduce a Senate Joint Resolution that would call for a statewide vote on a photo I.D. requirement for voters.

So, in other words, a vote on whether you believe you need a photo I.D. . . . to vote.

Legislation requiring that voters present photo identification at the polls was struck down by the state Supreme Court just weeks before the 2006 election. But Sen. Scott believes there is enough popular support among the people to bring it back.

"Especially because of the voter fraud problems in St. Louis and Kansas City by the Acorn people, this past election," Scott said.

He said his resolution would past constitutional muster because it would address financial issues like paying for supporting documents to obtain a photo I.D. "This would address paying for the state to pay the cost of those supporting documents for voting purposes," Scott said.
