Mo. Right to Life: Scott Not "Pro-Life"

Missouri Right to Life says the Republican candidate running in the #137th legislative district is "not pro-life."

Republican Dan Scott is battling Democrat Charlie Noor for the chance to replace Rep. Mark Wright in the #137th northside Springfield legislative district. Chris Fluharty is running as a conservative write-in candidate.

The State House Republican campaign committee is currently running television ads on behalf of Scott, claiming he is "100% pro-life."

Dave Plemmons of Missouri Right to Life says that's not so.

"Missouri Right to Life proudly endorses ONLY Chris Fluharty for the 137th," wrote Plemmons in an e-mail to me.

"Dan Scott stated his support for the clone and kill amendment 2 on the survey he filled out and returned to MRL. If Dan is 'pro-life,' it is the same kind of redefinition of 'pro-life' as Amendment 2 is a redefinition of cloning. He must he just desperate enough to be looking for any little edge he can muster. Who cares if truth is a casualty? True pro-life voters will care," Plemmons says.

Plemmons added that while Scott will probably receive more votes than Fluharty because he is a "party" candidate, he is not pro-life.

"MRL's priority is the vote on the Amendment, not individual candidates. Both Chris and Ron Day are preferable to Dan Scott, but they apparently are not good enough for a 'conservative' party structure to support," Plemmons writes.

"Bottom line, if you are a voter in the 137th and you are pro-life, Chris is the only choice. If you only care about party over principle, Dan is the choice. Pro-life and 'values' voters are really tired of being manipulated and taken for granted," Plemmons says.

"I proudly support my friend and real pro-life candidate Chris Fluharty," he adds.

Will this rift between Republicans end up sending Noor to Jeff City?

I hope so. They kept their word this cycle. I do not see why they would drop it in 2008. LAst I heard Matt was balking on not running and maybe trying for his fathers seat after he appoint him to Bonds seat when he retires.
