Nixon: E-mails Are Public Record
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Attorney General Jay Nixon says government e-mail messages must be preserved because they’re public records. That's a contrast to the position of Gov. Matt Blunt's staff members, who delete some e-mail messages that they do not consider public records.
Nixon's lead Sunshine Law attorney is James Klahr. He sent an e-mail message to reporters on Tuesday.
"There should be no debate -- e-mail communications are public records,” Klahr said in the message.
