No laptops for you!
A proposal by Republican Sen. Matt Bartle to allow Senators to use laptops on the chamber floor failed miserably Monday.
The vote against it was not even close, 24-9.
The Associated Press reports, "The vote Monday was 24-9 against the use of computers, with opposition coming from a mixture both young and old, newcomers and veterans, Republicans and Democrats."
Bartle argued the laptops would make Senators more efficient and effective. Opponents, like Sen. Gary Nodler of Joplin, argued that laptops, "attack the very nature and fiber of what we are as a body."
Here's the rundown on how our local Senators voted (A yes vote would've allowed laptops) :
Sen. Frank Barnitz (D) - NO
Sen. Dan Clemens (R) - NO
Sen. Norma Champion (R) - NO
Sen. Delbert Scott (R) - NO
--------------------------------
Sen. Chuck Purgason (R) - YES
Sen. Jack Goodman (R) - YES
The AP put it best . . . Tradition defeats technology.

These people don't understand how stupid this makes them look. They really think of themselves as gods and tradition is more important than progress. Sad!
