Does Iowa know something that the rest of the country doesn't, or is something just in the water up there?
According to recent polls, if the caucus was held today, it looks like Republican Mitt Romney and Democrat John Edwards would be the big winners.
Both are the 3rd place national candidates, but lead in the fickle state of Iowa.
Here's the latest Strategic Vision poll:
REPUBLICANS
Mitt Romney 20%
Rudy Giuliani 18%
John McCain 16%
Fred Thompson 10%
DEMOCRATS
John Edwards 29%
Barack Obama 24%
Hillary Clinton 16%
Bill Richardson 9%
Also notable in this poll is Bill Richardson's uptick to 9%, just 7 points behind Hillary? And 54% of Iowa Republicans . . . yeah, that's Republicans, want ALL U.S. troops out of Iraq within 6 months.
But an internal Clinton campaign memo revealed that at least one of her top advisers thinks she should skip Iowa and focus on other states.
Now that it's been leaked, it won't happen. But the fact that it was on the table is intriguing.
So does all this mean Iowa will be more important or less important this time around?
And by the way, how many people would be willing to put their money on a Romney vs. Edwards general election race right about now?
Thought so.
