Rep. Blunt: "Mission More Important Than How To Get There"

Call it a surge. Or an escalation. Call it bold. A fantasy. Or a mistake.

On Wednesday, President Bush is expected to announce his plan to send more troops to Iraq.

On Monday, Rep. Roy Blunt was asked about the expected plan.

Here's what he said:

"The President is heading for a new concept of what the mission in Iraq is. Clearly our original goals are not being met there, so I think the mission is more important than exactly how to get there. I don't think a member of Congress has any reason to believe or any reason to know the exact number of troops that should be involved. I think we do have reason to want to have confidence in the mission. I think that's the most important part of what the President will be saying this week. It appears he's not going to do the easy thing, not going to do the popular thing, so he must believe in his own mind, he's trying to do the right thing. And there should be some credit given for trying to do the right thing."
