Mason-Dixon: McCaskill 46%, Talent 45%

With just two days until election day, Democratic challenger Claire McCaskill is maintaining a slight lead over Republican Jim Talent in the closest U.S. Senate race in the country, according to a new Mason-Dixon poll by MSNBC.

Claire McCaskill 46%
Sen. Jim Talent 45%
Undecided 7%

In this particular poll, Talent has narrowed the lead from last month, when McCaskill was up by 3 points, 46%-43%. The most recent polls over the last week have given McCaskill a slight edge. This poll also indicates a higher number of undecideds than some previous surveys.

Nationally, this Mason-Dixon poll has good numbers for Republicans and gives them a very good shot at holding control of the U.S. Senate.

This poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. of Washington, D.C. from November 1 through November 3, 2006. A total of 625 registered Missouri voters were interviewed statewide by telephone. All stated they were likely to vote in the November general election.
