Just days after a Zogby poll published by the Wall Street Journal gave Senator Jim Talent a 5 point lead over Democrat Claire McCaskill, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is out with a poll with very different results.
A Research 2000 Poll, published by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has Claire McCaskill beating Jim Talent 49% to 43% if the election were held today. Research 2000 polled 800 voters between June 19 and June 22nd. And the party samples of voters polled looks pretty equal.
While each candidate wins more than 80% of the voters in their own party, McCaskill wins independent voters 53% to 39%.

With only 800 voters polled, a six point advantage is well within the margin of error. I'm sure the five point advantage shown by Zogby is also likely within the margin of error. That leaves both polls returning results too close to call either candidate a winner. I would have liked to have seen the margin of error stated both in your blog and when these same poll results were reported on air.

Any student or pollster who studies polling knows that the sample is not only statistically insignificant, but over sampled in the kc and st. louis areas.
You didnt mention that of the four areas polled that SW Missouri was the smallest sampling. Correct?
Now how does that match up with the actual poll results from the previous three elections?
