New Iowa Poll Highlights Dead Heats on Both Sides

NBC's political unit has gotten an early peek at the latest poll out of Iowa and it confirms what other recent polls have been showing in the Hawkeye State -- a dogfight on both sides with just over a month to go.

IOWA G.O.P
Mitt Romney 26%
Mike Huckabee 24%
Rudy Giuliani 14%
Fred Thompson 10%

IOWA DEMS
Hillary Clinton 29%
Barack Obama 29%
John Edwards 23%

The poll was conducted by Strategic Vision, a Republican pollster, from Nov. 23 to 25 with a sample size of 600 likely caucus goers from each party. It's margin of error of is +/- 4.5%.

The real story here is the Huckabee surge, and what a Huckabee win would portend for the rest of the nominating race.

This much is sure- for Huckabee and Obama, Iowa is win or go home. Romney and Clinton can survive a stumble in Iowa; Rudy isn't vested in success in Iowa either. But, Huckabee and Obama need to win in the Hawkeye state and the good news for now for them is that they are headed in that direction.
