Here Come The Big Guns!

Majority leader U.S. Senator Bill Frist will be in Springfield Tuesday morning to rally for Sen. Jim Talent's re-election bid. The event will be held at the Lamplighter Inn on South Glenstone at 11 a.m.

According to the release, Sen. Talent will address key differences between himself and Democratic challenger Claire McCaskill. Talent is also set to discuss his plan to lower the cost of healthcare and keep taxes low for Missourians.

The Springfield stop is just one of several by Frist for Talent. Frist will also attend rallies in Joplin, Bolivar, Lebanon and Rolla.

The visit by Frist just comes 3 days before President Bush's visit to the Ozarks, first reported exclusively by KY3 News. Logistics of the President's visit are still being worked out. But sources say the President will speak in Springfield on early Friday morning, possibly somewhere within the 9 a.m. hour. KY3 News is planning to televise the President's speech live. A Republican source also tells the KY3 Blog that Bush will also rally for Sen. Talent in Joplin. An official announcement by the White House about the Bush visit could come as early as Tuesday.

Doesn't Frist support stem cell research?

Seems like a waste of time to me. Talent will probaby carry the areas south of the Missouri river anyway. I can't imagine that any undecideds will jump on board because Frist shows up. He would probably do better with a good country band. If he came to town with Carrie Underwood I would show up!

The decision to carry the President live is a no-brainer. After speaking with my news director who made the decision, he said he would carry Bill Clinton live if he came to stump for Claire McCaskill. A visit by the President four days before the election is completely newsworthy. That's not to say tough questions can't be asked about what he says about the war and Jim Talent. But whether you agree or disagree with him, he is the President. And a visit to Springfield is big news, no matter how popular or unpopular he is. What even may make it more newsworthy is that many G.O.P. candidates are distancing themselves from the President. Obviously Republicans have made the call that a Bush visit will boost Talent.

David, I agree with you. Irregardless of one's personal opinion of Bush, he is still the president of the United States.

I remember the last time he came to town, I saw him at Bass Pro Shop, he shook my hand.

Too bad he wasn't able to attend the funeral of an Iraqi war casualty down in Aurora that day, guess Bass Pro was more important.

Hey, I saw Johnny Morris on KY3 last night at the race!
