Huckabee Likens Abortion to Slavery

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee likened abortion to slavery in a speech at a fundraiser for an anti-abortion organization.
Huckabee said Monday that the U.S. in abolishing slavery already debated and decided that it's wrong for one person to have complete, life or death power over another. Huckabee said that shouldn't change whether the control is based on racial bigotry or a pregnant woman making a decision for her unborn child.
His half-hour speech was for a luncheon fundraiser for the Vitae (VEE'-tay) Caring Foundation. The organization sponsors advertisements encouraging women to seek abortion alternatives.
Huckabee is to speak again at a Monday dinner for the group. Its organizers hoped to raise $400,000.

Huck Flips on Clinton Cabinet Pick

"BRILLIANT"
Former G.O.P. presidential candidate Mike Huckabee tells a Little Rock audience that President-Elect Barack Obama's selection of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State is a "brilliant" choice.
***
BUT just last month in Springfield, Huckabee told The Notebook that Obama's choices "look like we're just changing to the Clintons."
In THIS interview Huckabee said: "I think you could basically say if you like the Clinton administration, you're apparently going to love the Obama administration because you're going to have a lot of it."
***
The Arkansas Associated Press now reports: "The former governor and candidate for the GOP presidential nomination said New York Sen. Hillary Clinton will have instant credibility as secretary of state — and her selection should benefit Obama by having her on the team as an insider, instead of outside, as a critic."
Huckabee was speaking at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service.

Huckabee Says Obama Cabinet Appointments Don't Represent Change

"Looks Like We're Just Changing To The Clintons"

Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee raises a skeptical eye about Barack Obama's apparent Cabinet selections and explains why bailouts are hurting the Republican Party.

***WATCH CLIPS ABOVE***

Huck on Bailouts: "All the bailouts are ridiculous. It's not the purpose of the U.S. taxpayer to turn around and work real hard today to give money to people who are recklessly irresponsible in the way that they live."

Huck on Obama: "I think you could basically say if you like the Clinton administration, you're apparently going to love the Obama administration because you're going to have a lot of it."

Adds that while some of Obama's apparent selections show experience, "it looks like we're just changing to the Clintons."

Also says he'll pray for Obama's success

In New Book, Huck Takes It To Romney

In his new book, "Do The Right Thing," Mike Huckabee writes that Mitt Romney's record was "anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president." He notes that Romney declined to make a congratulatory phone call after Huckabee beat the odds to win the Iowa caucuses, "which we took as a sign of total disrespect."
***
A Romney spokesperson has fired back, via Politico: "This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee. If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together."

U.S. News & World Report cites a passage towards the end of Huck's book that they think shows he'll run for president again in 2012.

Huck Back In Springfield This Week

***
As of now, Springfield is the only Missouri stop scheduled as part of Huckabee's tour.

Rush & Me

The Talk Show King of the Conservative Movement Bashes My Questioning of Mike Huckabee Monday, regarding what's relevant in this presidential election.
***
And to think, taken to task by Rush on of all things, "drug use."
WATCH THE CLIP HERE
HERE'S THE KEY EXCERPT:
RUSH: So yesterday in Springfield, Missouri, Mike Huckabee was interviewed by a TV station, KY3 news, reporter said, "I know you mentioned Bill Ayers on the stage today. Is that an issue people ought to consider more important than even the economic issue? What's the message here? Is it his associations or is it the economic, the tax structure of the country?"
HUCKABEE: Can you tell me anybody that sorted out who it was that supplied Barack Obama the drugs that he claimed in his own book to have taken? No.
REPORTER: So that's relevant, his drug use is on the table.
HUCKABEE: Well, if Joe the Plumber's back taxes are relevant, a guy who's just playing football in his neighborhood, then everything is relevant.
RUSH: Hmm. That's Mike Huckabee. And the reporter, you know, "What do these associations have to do with economic things?" This is the where the reporter and most reporters are just ignorant and bullheaded. If your best friends are socialists, if your best friends are anti-capitalist, it has everything in the world to do with whether or not your economic policies are going to be capitalist or socialist. Ignorance, the most expensive commodity we have in this country, and a lot of it exists in the Drive-By Media.

Huck Rails Obama; Team Obama Responds To Drug Reference

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee spoke much more about Barack Obama than John McCain at his appearance Monday in Springfield. Above are some of Huckabee's harshest hits.

***

Huckabee repeatedly hammered Obama's tax plan that would "spread the wealth." He also criticized the media for vetting Joe The Plumber --- but not asking questions of Bill Ayers. In my interview with Huckabee, I asked him about his "spread the wealth" theory, if its ever ok to raise taxes and his advice for John McCain as he faces an increasingly difficult electoral map.

"PEOPLE FORGET 1980"

TEAM OBAMA REACTS TO HUCKABEE'S DRUG REFERENCE:

(Watch what Huck said HERE)

"These distractions aren't what Missourians are looking for in these tough times," said Southwest Missouri Regional Press Secretary Jean Weinberg. "Top Republicans have denounced these negative campaign tactics, including Colin Powell. Voters here deserve real solutions to the serious problems facing our country," she said.

The Future Face of the Missouri G.O.P.

Republican candidate for Treasurer Brad Lager rallied Springfield Republicans Monday with the help of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

WATCH CLIPS OF LAGER'S COMMENTS ABOVE

"The budget should drive government, not allowing the government to drive the budget," said Lager, after being introduced by State Sen. Delbert Scott.

***

Mike Huckabee said Lager got into government for the right reasons, and praised Missouri Republicans, including Gov. Matt Blunt, for transforming a huge deficit into a surplus. Huckabee also teased Lager, calling him "the most cautious man" he's ever met, because Lager dated his wife 13 years before marrying her.

Huckabee: Missouri 1 of 5 Battlegrounds

Former Arkansas Governor and White House contender Mike Huckabee tells the KY3 Political Notebook that Missouri could end up deciding the next president. Source: Huck At Top of McCain VP List

U.S News & World Report has the scoop.

They spoke with a top McCain fundraiser who claims Huckabee is at the top of McCain's possibilities. This fundraiser isn't keen on Huck . . . but the story notes his energetic campaigning and ties to social conservatives could put the former Arkansas Governor over the top?

Huck's V.P. stock has risen and fell over the past few months. Let's see where it lies in July.

Huck Book To Come Out Post-Election

Two weeks after the next president is elected, Mike Huckabee will publish a book sharing details on his failed bid for the White House and offering his vision for remodeling the conservative movement.

It's not titled yet, but it could be Huck's first step at potential re-run in 2012 --- that is, if John McCain is defeated.

Huck's book drops Nov. 18th.
