PUBLIC POLICY POLLING SHOWS MCCAIN WITH SMALL LEAD, NIXON WITH ONLY 5 POINT ADVANTAGE OVER STEELMAN
John McCain and Barack Obama are locked in a tight race for president in Missouri and State Treasurer Sarah Steelman is within five points of Democrat Jay Nixon, according to new numbers released in a Public Policy Polling survey.
Here are the numbers:
PRESIDENT
John McCain 47%
Barack Obama 44%
Note: McCain leads 46%-38% among independents
GOVERNOR
Jay Nixon 44%
Sarah Steelman 39%
Jay Nixon 47%
Kenny Hulshof 37%
Note: Hulshof leads 71%-19% over Nixon among Republicans, but Steelman just leads 63%-22% among the same group. "She does better against Nixon due to stronger support from Democrats and independents, but that won’t necessarily help her get through the primary," writes Tom Jensen
