EXCLUSIVE: State G.O.P. Urges Republicans NOT to Vote For Mark Wright in Auditor's Race

A Missouri Republican Party newsletter is urging party regulars to NOT vote for Springfield Rep. Mark Wright in Tuesday's state auditor primary because of his recent remarks about other Republicans.

The newsletter, put out late Friday afternoon by G.O.P. chair Jared Craighead, is a clear indication of the party leadership's anger with Wright over his recent comments about Governor Blunt. The move is also stunning, because party figures rarely get involved in inner-party primary races so publicly.

Here's the excerpt from the Aug. 4th edition of the G.O.P. Voice:

"A lot of attention is being paid to the four-way race for auditor. Unfortunately for our Party, Rep. Mark Wright has taken it upon himself to make disparaging remarks about other Republicans in what has been a generally civil race. Any of the other three candidates, Jack Jackson, John Loudon or Sandra Thomas would be exceptional Auditors; Wright's actions demonstrate he would not. It is important that Republicans show up at the polls on Election Day to support the Republican agenda that has helped improve the lives of so many of our fellow citizens."

"This is a political fragging," says one Greene County Republican who considers Wright a friend. "It's also a huge sign of the divisions in the Republican party right now."

"Why would the Republican party feel the need to do this unless they felt Wright was a threat? He is either gaining some traction and striking a chord among party people or he is out there alone in the political wilderness," says the Republican.

This all comes on the eve of the Greene County Republican Party barbeque at Phelps Grove Park. Governor Blunt is expected to attend. Rep. Mark Wright is expected to speak.

The Republican adds, "Who will get barbequed at the barbeque? As NBC says, this could be must see TV!"

This should end once and for all the myth that the Republican party has room for people with divergent viewpoints. If democrats refused to vote for everyone who has been critical of a democratic officeholder there wouldn't be anybody to vote for. Fortunately we don't require our elected officials to recite a loyaly creed or walk lock step behind party leaders. "Hup two three four-- hup two three four. Back in line private Wright. Quit thinking for yourself and join in the mandatory praise of our boy Governor. Forget the schools. Reward the loyal Republican soldiers who raised the money to elect the boy Governor. They earned the cash rewards they are getting from the fee agent offices. After all waht is a couple hundred of thousand dollars a year among Republicans. Hup two three four.... Back in line Wright"

Bobby Tomato: Blunt feels free to personally attack anyone he wants in the name of "Chrisitanity". As far as I am concerned what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

I agree there is more to the story. I hear Wright wanted to run for state Senate agaisnt Champion. Blunt talked him out of it because Champion had voted with him so loyally. Blunt urged him to run for Auditor and then immediately started recruiting another candidate for Auditor (Thomas) instead of Wright at the urging of the Blunt's family friends the Graves family from the Kansas City area who were upset no statewide Republican was from KC.
