Springfield State Senate candidate Doug Harpool is demanding a public apology from Republican Sen. Norma Champion about an ad that includes an impersonation of him.
Harpool says the ad is "misleading" and is calling on the Champion campaign to take the ad off the air immediately. The ad features a "conversation" between Harpool and an announcer.
"Senator Champion's ad has someone doing an impression of me, and claiming in fact to be me. This is the most outrageous stunt I've witnessed in politics," Harpool said in a press release. "She needs to be reminded that this is not a puppet show, and she cannot simply pretend that my voice is in her commercial."
Harpool also used the opportunity to reiterate his call for a debate. "I have repeatedly tried to schedule a civilized debate with Senator Champion, and she has repeatedly refused. She does a great disservice to the citizens of Springfield -- not just for refusing to debate the issues, but with this childish stunt," Harpool said.
"I would invite a thorough examination of my votes in the legislature. Apparently, Senator Champion doesn't feel comfortable in explaining her votes," he added. "Instead of using pretend voices in commercials, the senator should use her real voice in a debate."
KY3 had offered an open invitation for a State Senate debate last month. Harpool accepted; Champion declined.
Speaking of puppet shows, here is the latest installment of DougTV.

"Unless Harpool and his lackeys want to repeal the first amendment"
Give them time... they'll all get around to it eventually.
I actually ENJOYED a political commercial for a change. Thanks to whoever put that one together.
The ad goes even even one step further then typical Repubican ads. In the past they made up their opponent's position. Now they also fraudulently claim to use the opponents voice to misrepresent his position. All while refusing to debate. This may be legal. It is not ethical. I suppose with this group of Republican's we should be happy when they don't break the law. They have had trouble jus tdoing that: Ney, Abramhoff, Cunningham, etc. etc, etc.
"fraud, misrepresentation, and a lack of ethics"... should be cause for uproar and public shunning/humiliation of the perpetrators, without regard to party affiliation.
I do enjoy watching the RepubliCrats fling poo at each other, though. Warms me up inside.
Roy Blunt won't debate his opponents, either. Must be that sense of "I'm in this seat, and it's mine until I die" entitlement mentality...
