RNC '08: Day 2 Speeches

ST. PAUL --- The speeches, highlights paraphrased:

SEN. JOE LIEBERMAN: Referring to Hurricane Gustav, says the last thing we think about when helping people is whether they are Republicans or Democrats. Calls partisanship in Washington "senseless," adding that the "spirit of party" could be one of the biggest enemies of democracies. "I'm here to support John McCain because country matters more than party . . . John McCain is the best choice to bring our country together and lead America forward . . ." Warns people not to be fooled . . . "God only made one John McCain and he is, his own man. . . . The real ticket for change this year is the McCain-Palin ticket . . . What we need more right now is not party unity, but more national unity."

FRED THOMPSON: "The selection of Gov. Palin has put our friends in the media in a state of panic . . . When she and Sen. McCain get to Washington, they aren't going to care how much those alligators get irritated, they're going to drain the swamp . . ." On McCain's demerits: "John wasn't just a troublemaker, he was the leader of the troublemakers" Points out he's been to Iraq 8 times since 2003, not seeking publicity, and notes he took a political risk advocating the surge, "and now we're winning."

PRESIDENT BUSH (via satellite): McCain's life has prepared him to be president. "He's not afraid to tell you when he disagrees with you. Believe me, I know . . . No matter what the issue, the man is honest and speaks straight from the heart . . . I am optimistic, when the debates have ended, and all the ads have run, and it is time to vote, Americans will look closely at the judgment, the experience and the policies of the candidates -- and they will cast their ballots for the McCain-Palin ticket."

LAURA BUSH:
Says she's proud that the first female vice-president will be a Republican woman. On her husband, "George remains a man with strong values, and enduring love for the United States of America."

Hope you're going to be fair regarding GOV. Palin's experience. She has as much or more than Obama and has accomplished far more than he has.

As for her daughter, leave her out of it.

Wow, what a breath of fresh air from this Republican Convention versus all of the negativity flowing from the Democrat Convention. All the Democrats do is complain that this is the worst country in the world. Quite the contrary, we are the greatest and most giving country in the world.

David, I have enjoyed your blogs, but I have a problem with the way the media is handling Sara Palin's personal life.Just because her 17 year old dayghter got pregnant, has no bearing on this election. I for one, am offended by what the media is trying to do. Didn't the media learn anything from Princess Diana's death. Lets get to the candidates!I for one was not looking forward to this election, but after watching McCain pick Palin for VP and watching RNC tonight, I have a new interest. Liaberman spoke very well tonight about John McCain and Sara Palin. They have the experince and know how for change! I feel Obama and Biden are just giving lip service! We have a Demecratic congress that has an approval rating lower than George Bush. Palin's approval is over80% in Alaska, that says alot.

Too late guys, checkout the poll question posted in the topic above this one.

Doesn't look like Catanese intends to leave Bristol and her baby out of anything - regardless if it is relevant to how Palin can govern or not.

Hm. Dont remember Catanese asking if Senator Obama's connections to Ayres and Rezko were relevant to him being president (which is just slightly more topical that Bristol's pregnancy).

Let me ask a question is a slightly different way. If one of Obama's daughters got pregnant, would we be asking the same question?
