How To Pick A Judge

Judge Bob Lawson vs. David Jones

Greene County Circuit Judge Race

Gov. Matt Blunt appointed Bob Lawson to replace Judge Miles Sweeney, who retired last fall. Now Lawson stands for his first election, and is being challenged by former federal prosecutor David Jones. Judicial candidates can't talk about much other than themselves. Not issues, not cases. Not even other candidates, really. (Though, Greene County Sheriff Jack Merritt has endorsed Jones, and is appearing in television commercials for him.) Watch the clips of Lawson and Jones above and determine for yourself whether a non-partisan court plan where judges would be appointed, and not elected would work better.

Stay away from the non-partisan court plan.

The link that you provide comes directly from our own deceptive Missouri Supreme Court.

The Court's page does not tell you that the non-partisan plan is a power grab that started in 1914 by the American Judicature Society. (Yes the name sounds trustworthy; doesn't it?)

Further, if the Missouri Courts had become corrupt, as the Court's website suggests, why were none of those supposedly corrupt judges removed from the bench?

In 1787, Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter to James Madison in which he stated, "I know of no safe repository of the ultimate power of society but the people, and if we think them not enlightened enough, the remedy is not to take the power from them."
