STEELMAN EXPLAINS ETHANOL FLIP
NOW CALLS FOR REPEAL OF MANDATE

BUT IN APRIL STEELMAN SAID: "As an economist, I am very concerned about the use of mandates in a free market system. However, the consequences of our nation's continued dependence on foreign oil are so far ranging and serious, that I support mandates in the short run to help establish a market for renewable fuels."

Lots of successful politicians have changed their minds (i.e. flip-flopped) on major issues. Ronald Reagan flipped on abortion. George W. Bush flipped on nation building. Barack Obama flipped on public financing. Sarah Steelman has now flipped on an ethanol mandate. There's an argument to be made that flips are, at times, honorable, even courageous, but no pol likes admitting to it. Is that their fault or the media's?
