Michael Goodart Jr. has filed his primary papers to run in the #138th legislative district against Rep. Sara Lampe.
Goodart ran unsuccessfully against Steve Helms in the 2006 Republican primary. Rep. Lampe defeated Helms handily, and last year said he wouldn't run again this year because Lampe would be almost impossible to beat.
In 2006, Goodart based his primary campaign on a dramatic plan to reform the tax code, by eliminating income and property taxes. He opposed the stem cell research initiative because he said the ballot language "blatantly deceives voters." But in his campaign literature, he referred to himself as "a young moderate Republican."
In the August 2006 primary, Helms defeated Goodart 64% to 36%, but with Helms out of the race this round, Goodart could finally have his uphill shot against Lampe.
