The latest bizarre clarification comes from Dr. Olen Green, a professor of accountancy and a host of the event.
Dr. Greer said Ashcroft wants to have interaction with the students, and believes cameras will "intimidate them" during the question and answer session.
When we repeatedly pressed Dr. Greer why media outlets couldn't record Ashcroft's words, Greer replied, "If you'd been in his shoes the last six years with the media outlets taking snippets of what he says, distorting what he says, you might understand. He just doesn't want to deal with that."
For people not in television, "Broll" is just raw video of an event, and not sound.
Ashcroft will speak tonight at 7 p.m. at Hammons Hall about homeland security and its impact on the business environment. He is also scheduled to speak at Drury University Thursday night. Yet Bill Noblitt, a spokesman at Drury University said media will be allowed.
"Yes, media will be allowed in to cover the event. Questions must be written down and students will get first preference," Noblitt said.
Greer said the rules are different for Drury because they did not book Ashcroft through his agency. Greer said Ashcroft will also allow the university to take audio and video of the event for archival use.

Don't complain. It simply means we don't have to hear him sing Le the Eagle Soar on Ozark news broadcasts!
