Romney Wins CPAC Poll
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won a straw poll of 2008 G.O.P. presidential hopefuls at the Conservative Political Action Conference this weekend.
Of the 1,705 votes cast, Romney scored 21% of the ballots.
Mitt Romney 21%
Rudy Giuliani 17%
Sam Brownback 15%
Newt Gingrich 14%
John McCain 12%
All others were under 5%.
Conservatives give Romney and Brownback points for finishing high, but some say the moderate Giuliani may have been the bigger winner for having done so well with a red-meat right-leaning crowd. Over at RedState.com, they are fuming over McCain's absence and the hardcore bloggers believe "he's toast."
