53% Bond, 50% McCaskill, 37% Blunt

SurveyUSA is out with its January approval ratings for Missouri's top pols.

53% of those surveyed approve of Republican U.S. Sen. Kit Bond. Bond wins conservatives and moderates and even nabs 41% of the liberal vote. Bond is strongest in the Ozarks, winning the nod of 63%.

Missouri's new Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill receives a 50% rating. 40% disapprove. Independents are split down the middle on Claire, 44%-43%. The Ozarks gives her a 43% approval rating, which isn't bad, considering she's only 6 points higher in Kansas City.

Mo. Gov. Matt Blunt clocks in at 37% to ring in the New Year. Blunt wins 63% of conservatives, but gets clobbered in the moderate and liberal categories. 45% approve of the Governor in the Ozarks. It's 2 points better than McCaskill . . . in the Ozarks. Not where he wants to be. But Bluntworld will tell you that the people they talk to love the Guv's agenda and that the SurveyUSA poll is hogwash.

The Rothenberg Political Report lists Blunt as one of the top 4 most vulnerable Governors in the country. The Washington Post blog already posts Missouri's Governor's race as the fifth most competitive.

This, just as a few Republican operatives have absolutely assured me Jim Talent will not run for Governor in 2008. No ifs . . . ands or buts about it.

I wonder how Claire's poll ratings will fare once voters become more aware of her voting record and her connection to John Bowman.
