From the A.P. Friday:
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Governor Blunt's campaign plans to
begin running television ads across the state next week. The spots
are aimed at touting what he's done in office, and follow a series
of radio ads that aired earlier this summer.
But in contrast to the many candidates with yard signs and
presence in newspapers and over the airwaves this time of year,
Blunt isn't on the ballot this fall. In fact, he doesn't face
re-election until 2008.
A media consultant for the Republican governor's campaign says
he's just trying to tell Missourians about the good things he has
done in office -- messages consultant John Thompson says don't
always get through the "media filter."

Early bird TV ads for Blunt

Now we know why the Governor wanted to lift the limits off campaign contributions. He can't win on his record. He probably can't even win his own primary on his record. BUT now he can try to buy his way into office with money from the fee agents and other insiders he has helped enrich.
@one wing: Look, I might not agree with everything Matt does, but I do agree that there is a media filter and that he, or any other political candidate, should be able to run advertisments.
Its this silly little thing called free speech.
@bobicus
First of all, it's very disrespectful for you to continute calling "takes two wings to fly straight" "one wing." It might amuse you, but it's childish and unnescessary. Just like Tim correcting people for misspellings or grammatical errors. Please stick to the topics at hand. If I want to be amused I'll visit The Onion or Jim Viebrock's website.
Matt Blunt knows the only way to gain some credibility at this point is to run propaganda. Blaming the "media filter" for the problems he's caused is not taking responsibility for the mess he's created. I bet Thompson and crew will/have done polls to see what's important to Missourians because their silver-spoon-fed boss doesn't have a clue. Then they'll storyboard the poll results into a feel good, 30 second narrative with old guys in cowboy hats and a smiling African American (diversity!) so the short-attention-spanned drone watching "Friends" or "The Golden Girls" will think "Hey! This guy's alright!" The good thing is that people who would buy this fluff probably don't vote anyway.
@toupe: You are probably correct in that any politician does their focus groups when launching an advertisment. That does not mean they do not have the right to run the advertisment. It does not mean that the advertisment is correct.
There is a media filter and Blunt or any other politician should be able to run advertisments until their heart is content because they have the free speech to do so.
Bobby Tomato-- ads cost money. The more ads he runs the more he owes big money and special interests. Just what this Governor needs. In keeping with this new development and with your repeated description of the Govrnor as a good Christian I have suggestion for a song title about the Govenor and those special interest lobbyists that are financing these new ads:"Just a closer walk with thee"
@one wing:
What is your point? Of course ads cost money. Dont pretend that Democrats dont have money, either. They do. In fact if you look over the past few elections, most of their money come from bigger single donors than Republicans.
In either case, that is besides the point. If Blunt or any other candidate wishes to run ads, they should be able to. Period. The first ammendment gaurantees that, like it or not.
@bobicus
Nobody here has said candidates don't have a right to run ads or that they shouldn't have freedom of speech, so I'm not sure why you keep repeating that. We have made our reservations about this matter pretty clear. The fact that you keep repeating yourself and not addressing our specific concerns (and that you have once again disrepectfully called a fellow blogger "one wing" for your own personal amusement) indicates a lack of understanding or care on your part.
I guess Blunt is running for auditor or maybe U.S. Senate? Or maybe his polls are so far in the toilet that he needs to get started early for '08.
