The KC Star covers the issue Sunday relating it back to Talent v. McCaskill. Our favorite Ozarks political scientist, George Connor, makes the case that Talent needs issues like gay marriage to not only attack McCaskill on, but motivate the base enough to get out and vote on Election Day.
Democrat and Republican leaders see the issues much differently, as you can imagine. Sen. Joe Biden, D-Delaware, told Tim Russert:
The world’s going to Hades in a handbasket. We are desperately concerned about the circumstance relating to avian flu—we don’t have enough vaccines, we don’t have enough police officers—and we’re going to debate, the next three weeks, I’m told, gay marriage, a flag amendment, and God only knows what else.
Majority leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee, says "marriage is under attack." Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas, says "This is a critical policy issue.”

Ridiculous. Senator Bond, currently in his second marriage, has no authority to vote against the "Marriage Protection Amendment." I wish Washington would worry about real issues and solve real problems.
