Blunt campaign: "Biased press corps"

While traveling the state signing sex offender legislation, Governor Matt Blunt, R-Missouri, launched new radio ads promoting his accomplishments since taking office in January 2005.

The ad notes increases in money for schools, job creation and his ability get bills passed like the ethanol mandate and limits of lawsuits - done all without a tax increase.

John Thompson is a media consultant for Blunt. The Blunt campaign spent tens of thousands of dollars for his services in 2004. From the press release:

"Governor Blunt has a great story to tell, and he is not going to let a media filter and a biased press corps keep Missourians from hearing about the positive things that are happening in this state. From education, to jobs, to the effective operation of state government, our Governor is taking his track record straight to Missourians because at the end of the day, that's all that matters to him."

The ads also take aim at former Gov. Bob Holden, without mentioning his name. The ad says under the previous administration, money was withheld from schools, roads were crumbling and jobs and doctors were leaving the state.

How would the governor or his people know that there is a "biased press corps" when they do everything in their power to ensure there is very little contact between the governor and the press corps? The campaign says the reason for the ads is so the gov can get his message out?!?! WTF?!?! His office refuses nearly all requests for one-on-one interviews with the governor, even for fluffy stories. Reporters simply have to catch him after an event. That kind of scenario allows for thoughtful questioning of the state's top elected official. *eye roll*

They are correct.

Go no further than ky3's own reporting. You conviently leave out many facts surrounding the decision to make medicaide cuts and never once did I see a mention of the abuses which were REAL.

Instead, we hear the sob stories regarding the exception to the rule.

Blunt could have taken the easy way out and left medicade alone. Some times I wish he would have because of all the bad press he has recieved.

Then there is the case where Robin Carnahan's spokes person has been in communique with the KC Star and Post Dispatch - violating clear Missouri statutes regarding the voter ID act.

I would love to see an honestly fair and balanced media. Then again, I would love to be a fly on the wall in the various news rooms.

That all said, I would like to acknowldege your last blog entry (the one above this one).

Things dont need to be puff pieces, just truthful and inclusive of the WHOLE story - not just one side. Thanks.
