Chrismer: Steelman Played Gender Card

In an article in CongressDaily on gender's role in the Missouri Senate race, Roy Blunt's spokesman suggested that Sarah Steelman has already played the gender card.

Blunt spokesman Rich Chrismer said Blunt has "an excellent record for both men and women" and suggested Steelman made gender an issue in the race with her comments earlier this year that Blunt was "another white guy in a suit," reports Erin McPike of CongressDaily.

It also includes this nugget: "A Republican in Blunt's camp countered that with Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill already in office, Missouri voters might be better served balancing that with a male."

"Should the general election be woman-against-woman, Steelman cited an edge because her experiences as a mother to three children will help her relate to a large swath of voters trying to meet day-to-day parenting challenges more than Carnahan, who has no children," writes McPike.

The full piece, which is only available by subscription, was sent to The Notebook by another source.

If Steelman was one to play the "Gender Card", she could have done so most effectively in the governor's race.

She would have been Missouri's first female governor. There, the gender card could have put her over the top in the primary.

She didn't play it then (though I think she should have), and she didn't play it now.

The Blunt Camp is just looking for something to say....as they don't have much of anything good to say about Roy.

If Blunt believes that logic, he should immediately step down from serving Missouri's 7th Congressional District.

There are 9 Congressional districts in Missouri and only one woman is serving... Representative Jo Ann Emerson in District 8.

The Blunt folks sure are grasping at straws now. Must be pretty desperate times. If I were Sarah Steelman, I'd buy him a microphone and let him dig his own grave.

What a fool.

Mr. Chrismer should understand, the best card the Steelman pair have to play is the gender card. They can't run on being a strong republicans given their allegiance to the labor and trial lawyer agendas and unsupportiveness of candidate Hulshof after Steelman lost in the primary and now, with the Steelman's hiring of a high-profile Washington, DC Democrat, Mr. Weaver, to advise their campaign. Good move Steelman's go with the gender card.
