Republicans scoff at the notion, but if Barack Obama's campaign doesn't make up some Democratic ground this election cycle, it won't be because of lack of effort. They are out-manning, out-organizing and out-spending Team McCain, who is mostly relying on the local party regulars to do the groundwork. But Obama still has political and cultural obstacles to overcome, as well as history.
