"If you can't beat a guy like this in a year like this, with a vastly unpopular Republican war still ongoing and a Republican recession looming, what precisely is the point of you?"
---Journalist John Heilemann in New York magazine writing about the relevancy of the Democratic Party if it loses to John McCain in November. His April piece is entitled "Is John McCain Bob Dole?"

What does Heilemann mean by "guy like this?" That McCain is weak, lackluster, Bob Dolesque?
I submit that the Democrats haven't faced a candidate as formidable as McCain since 1980. He will hold the "red" states, plus bring states like Pennsylvania and Michigan into play. He is not ceding any ground as evidenced by his tour this week of normal Democratic strongholds.
My question back to Heilemann is "Who is Barack Obama? George McGovern, Michael Dukakis, or a combination of both?"
Republican war? Republican recession?
Hmm. Last I checked these were American problems.
