A Missouri House bill has been filed to exempt people from paying state income taxes on the federal $600 to $1200 rebate checks they will receive in the months to come.
The legislation is being filed by Democratic Rep. Jason Holsman of Kansas City. According to Holsman, without his legislation, Missourians would likely have to pay taxes on the rebates.
"Missourians should be allowed to use all of that money to provide for their families and pay their bills," Holsman said. "I'm proud to stand with my Democratic colleagues in calling on the legislature to exempt Missourians from paying taxes on the rebate checks," he added.
President Bush's tax rebate plan includes up to $600 for individuals and $1,200 for couples. Families will receive an additional rebate of $300 per child.
