As Congressional leaders moved towards passing a revised Defense reauthorization bill, Rep. Ike Skelton expressed his anger towards President Bush.
According to CQ Politics:
Skelton said he was still angry that Bush had bowed to the Iraqi government’s concerns about possible legal claims arising from the original bill.
“Why do you think he vetoed it? He did it because Iraq was coming out of its gourd,” Skelton said.
Meanwhile, Skelton praised Defense Secretary Robert Gates for his voice of moderation.
From the Boston Globe:
"He has been very straightforward," said Representative Ike Skelton of Missouri, the Democratic chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. "He gives us periodic briefings on the situation in the Middle East that he pledged he would do. He told us at his confirmation hearing that he would not mislead us and has lived up to it."
