Blunt Re-Appoints Branson Man to State Board of Ed

A Branson man was re-appointed to the State Board of Education today.

72-year-old Peter Herschend is co-founder of Herschend Family Entertainment and has served as state board president.

Gov. Matt Blunt today appointed Peter Herschend (R) to the State Board of Education.

"Peter Herschend has made invaluable contributions to benefit our students,” Gov. Blunt said. “Missourians can be proud he has agreed to continue serving Missouri’s students in this capacity.”

"Every year, Missouri is gaining ground in core content areas, but progress is slow and we need to do better," Herschend said.

Herschend is also a current member of the Board of Directors of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, the Advisory Board for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Board of Directors for Camp Barnabas, among others.

Herschend’s re-appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on July 1, 2015.
