Seventy-two hours after his second place straw poll finish in Iowa, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee received move than 1,000 contributions from first-time donors, according to a campaign release.
Still, the former Arkansas Governor needs boatloads more to stay competitive. He's making a plea for more dough in a e-mail to supporters today.
"For months now the media and Washington pundits have focused on campaign staffs, gamesmanship and dollars raised. We should instead be talking about the issues because Americans deserve a thoughtful, lengthy debate. With your help, this September we will do our part using the internet and our Volunteers on the ground to focus on the issues," Huckabee writes to supporters.
It's estimated that Huckabee raised about $40,000 at a fundraiser in Branson last week.
