The Missouri Senate has approved Katie Smith to be the director of the Department of Agriculture.
Despite some questions about Smith's qualifications, the 29-year-old was approved by a voice vote with only one Senator expressing opposition, according to the Columbia Tribune Politics Blog.
“Katie Smith has a proven record when it comes to agricultural issues, and I am pleased she agreed to serve our state and work to further Missouri agriculture interests and values,” said Gov. Matt Blunt in a statement. “Mrs. Smith will be a great leader and champion for Missouri agriculture.”
