President Bush has vetoed Democratic legislation to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq.
He got live TV evening news time (including on KY3) to do it.
So far, I've only received reaction from Rep. Roy Blunt:
"The president was finally given the opportunity this afternoon to veto a bill that in my judgment should have never seen the surface of his desk. Now several days removed from its passage, and the political theatre hopefully behind us, Democratic leaders have an obligation to work with Republicans in crafting a sound bill that provides our troops the tools, equipment and latitude they need to complete the task at hand.
“That work could, and certainly should, start this afternoon. But instead, Democrats seem ready to use valuable floor time to go fishing for a super-majority on a measure they barely had enough votes to pass in the first place.
“Our fighting men and women have stood by patiently as Democrats in Congress tried to pass an ‘emergency’ funding package larded up with pork and weighed down with unnecessary strings. It’s about time this Congress delivered the troops a bill worthy of their continued sacrifice, and consistent with their outstanding needs.”
