JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - An independent audit cites errors by Platte County Auditor Sandra Thomas in its investigation into a 195-thousand dollar discrepancy in the county's books.
Thomas is the Republican candidate for state auditor. She says the discrepancy is not her fault and most of the problems are the fault of the county treasurer's office and the auditing firm.
Thomas has touted her awards as county auditor and her qualifications as a certified public accountant in her campaign for state auditor.
She declared victory in the five-way Republican primary when results showed her with a slim lead over House member Jack Jackson. If her lead holds up on a recount, Thomas would face Democratic Buchanan County Auditor Susan Montee in the November election.

Bet the Republicans wish they had known more about this issue before the Primary.
Tough to get elected State Auditor when you made this kind of high profile mistake as a County Auditor.
