As Ire Over Ike's Absence Builds, Hartlzer Announces Tour

"IF YOU FEEL THAT NO ONE IS LISTENING . . .
I INVITE YOU TO COME OUT . . ."
Dozens showed up outside of Congressman Ike Skelton's Jefferson City office Wednesday to protest the lack of townhall meetings he's held during the August break, just as a GOP rival ramps up to hold her own.
The above photos, sent to The Notebook, show the crowd size that some estimated at around 100. The conservative Adam Smith Foundation, which helped orchestrate the protest, said a video recording of statements would be sent to Skelton.
The AP reports: A Skelton spokeswoman did not immediately return an e-mail Wednesday night seeking comment. Phones at his Washington, D.C., office were unanswered.
MEANWHILE: 4th District Republican candidate Vicky Hartzler announced she would kick off her own healthcare listening tour next week.
"Health care is of vital importance to every man, woman, and child. The people of this district deserve to have their voices heard as drastic changes are being proposed in Washington which could jeopardize the best health care system in the world. It is deeply troubling that Congressman Skelton will not be holding a health care forum that is open to the general public. I firmly believe it is the job of our elected officials to represent the people of their district. I welcome this opportunity to hear the ideas and concerns of the people in this area and look forward to visiting with them about ways to strengthen and improve our health care system," Hartzler said in a statement.
"If you feel that no one is listening, I invite you to come out so that your voice can be heard," she added.
Hartlzer's listening tour will kick off in Marshfield on Aug. 20th at the Empire Bank on 1197 South Spur Drive from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Later that day Hartzler will hold another townhall meeting in Lebanon at Christian Health Care: Lebanon South on 514 West Fremont from 6-7 p.m.
*The general public is encouraged to attend both forums*
