Politico: Skelton Keeps Respect of Military

While Democrats are often accused of not supporting the troops when they criticize the conduct of the war, Rep. Ike Skelton has managed to keep the respect of top military brass, reports The Politico.

“In a world of partisan politics, Ike has always placed the welfare of our service members at the forefront of his agenda,” Defense Secretary Robert Gates said last month in a speech at the Whiteman Air Force Base. “Ike Skelton is a friend of everyone in uniform.”

The piece also notes that while Skelton initially supported the war in Iraq, he quickly became one of the war's most fierce critics.
