Springfield Rep. Sara Lampe (D-#138) said she believes any of the Democratic candidates for Attorney General can defeat Republican candidate and current State Senate Pro Tem Michael Gibbons.
Lampe, who is publicly uncommitted in the Democratic primary, said she thinks a key factor for voters will be which candidate has the best chance to win in November.
"I think if it's Gibbons, a Democrat will win. Anyone of our three candidates can beat him hands-down," Lampe said in a recent interview. "He doesn't have a good record at all for the people of Missouri."
Rep. Jeff Harris, Rep. Margaret Donnelly and State Senator Chris Koster are all expected candidates for Attorney General on the Democratic side. While Gibbons is running, U.S Attorney Catherine Hanaway is expected to announce soon whether she'll throw her hat into the Republican primary.
Lampe said Hanaway would be a tougher opponent for the Dems in a general election. "She's tough, because she's got a lot of money behind her, name recognition, and she's got a lot of party loyalty," she said. "My guess is people will swing behind her before Gibbons, just because she's like the 800-pound gorilla in the room."

The Democrats have two good candidates in this race and I can support either Jeff Harris or Donnelly against either Gibbons or Hanaway. I prefer Jeff Harris over Donnelly because he is more likely to win in the general. Donnelly is a little too liberal to do well in the general election. Candidates from St. Louis also rarely win in the general.
