Ozarks Values '08: The Vaughans

Residence: Near Ozark
Occupation: She's a global consultant, he was a home inspector
Politics: Democrats

Dixie and Tommy Vaughan are tired of traveling around the world and hearing foreigners trash their President. It's not that they don't necessarily agree (they didn't vote for Bush), but they almost get depressed hearing it over and over.

"We just went to Australia, and everywhere we were, people were like, 'We hate George Bush. Bring back your last President. We loved them,'" Dixie says, which partly explains why she's supporting Hillary Clinton for President.

"We live in a global society nowadays," Tommy adds. "Just because we live in the Ozarks, we don't only have to worry about Oklahoma and Arkansas. This whole world matters," he says.
"We need the Clinton team back, they were masters at diplomacy."

After living in California, the Vaughans just recently moved back to the Ozarks. They like to travel the world for work and pleasure and are kind of shocked they can't get a glass of wine in downtown Ozark. They're more liberal than their neighbors, but they are also politically motivated.

Their top issue is healthcare. "At our age it has to be," jokes Dixie. But the war in Iraq is also huge for them. They don't blame Clinton for her vote for the war. They don't even think it matters much WHICH Democrat gets nominated this time around. But Dixie is especially drawn to Hillary.

"I don't care about the personal stuff. She was a master at diplomacy, and she was there. Obama doesn't have very much experience, so it's got to be Hillary. Because she can take it. She's taken it all before and she always comes out on her feet," explains Dixie.

"Plus, I'd love to see a woman in there! It'd be so cool to have a woman," she says.
