Blunt Orders Immigration Checks; Some Fear Profiling

Gov. Matt Blunt has ordered Missouri's state law officers to check the immigration status of everyone whom they arrest.

But some are already worried about the parameters of the directive, and fear possible profiling of Hispanics.

That's because the order could also cover people who are stopped but might otherwise not be arrested. A Highway Patrol spokesman says troopers would check anyone whom they suspect of being an illegal immigrant but he also says there has to be reasonable suspicion.
