Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' resignation this morning caught me by surprise, how about you?
I thought the President would hang on to him no matter what.
Sen. Claire McCaskill was the first Missouri pol out with a statement:
"The office of the Attorney General is an arm of justice and therefore should be free from political influences. It was clear to me from the start that Attorney General Gonzales had been a part of a political scheme and consequently should have been quickly removed from his position. The delay is another failure of leadership and display of incompetence by the Bush Administration,” McCaskill said. “I urge the President to seek a replacement who has displayed staunch independence in order to restore integrity to this position."
