New Optimism Emerges on Medicaid

Last night in my live shot at 6 p.m., KY3 Anchor Lisa Rose asked me if I thought lawmakers would reach a deal on Medicaid to avoid a special session.

"I think they're going to get there, but it's hart to tell. But if a Republican House, a Republican Senate and a Republican Governor can't work out a deal, who can?," I responded.

That was based on lobbyists, legislative aides and lawmakers I spoke with mulling outside the conference committee room at the Capitol.

It was a tough call.

But now at 3:42 p.m., the Associated Press reports new optimism of reaching a compromise. House Speaker Rod Jetton says he is now 95 percent certain that a compromise can be reached.
