Rep. B.J. Marsh told me Wednesday that he would be filing legislation to exempt Ozarks schools from having to make up missed school days due to the ice storm.
Marsh indicated it would cover five weekdays of the storm.
I don't see anything filed yet.
Maybe that's because Springfield Superintendent of Schools Norm Ridder is not a fan of the plan. Apparently, the district has already made arrangements to make up the day (they are only over one) over President's Day weekend. Ridder tells KY3 he's worried kids will miss out on important instruction for the state MAP test if they scrap the day.
Marsh told me he has a considerable amount of support among Southwest Missouri lawmakers. "I'm worried that they'll run out of time and run into the summer school calendar," Rep. Marsh told me on the House floor.
If anything, shouldn't lawmakers be talking about extending the school year?
Maybe it's easy for me to say that since I'm out.
