Huckabee, The Darkhorse?

He's been all over cable TV as of late, promoting his book, "From Hope to Higher Ground."

And now columnist E.J. Dionne calls outgoing Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, "the Republican to watch."

"Huckabee, if he chooses to run for president in 2008, has another asset: while front-runners John McCain and Rudy Giuliani have placed large bets on the success of President Bush's Iraq policy, Huckabee has maintained what you might call loyal distance," writes Dionne.

Still, how long can Huckabee go without seriously addressing Iraq, or North Korea nukes, or Iran . . . or even the bloodshed in Sudan? Can he really just punt?

Dionne says he should pivot to domestic success in Arkansas:

"Huckabee is the Republican to watch, especially if former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts doesn't gain traction. Like Romney, Huckabee was a governor and can brag about expanding health coverage in his state (even if Romney's plan was bolder)."

"But Huckabee is also a Southerner with unassailable Christian evangelical credentials: a Baptist minister, he attended Ouachita Baptist University and was president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention."

Jerry Falwell is wondering if Huckabee will leap in to the 2008 rumble.

If he's doing The Daily Show, it probably means he's leaning towards running.

And he's coming to talk to David Vincent Jericho next week.

I saw Huckabee on Imus a few days ago and was very impressed. He is way ahead on the ideas front and has a compelling story about health (weight loss). The fact he is a baptist minister will hurt him with the media and the elite and expose their bias to anyone with the Rev. before their name unless they are a race-baiter. AKA Jackson,Sharpton
