Rep. Jo Ann Emerson is just back from a trip to Cuba, designed to look for ways to boost agricultural exports to the communist nation that would benefit some Missouri farmers.
Emerson was part of a 10-member bipartisan delegation to visit Cuba.
"Every single person with whom we met said they want to have negotiations to start building dialogue and communication between them and Washington, which is a different tone than they've taken in the past," Emerson said, according to the Associated Press.
The Bush administration has said it will not open talks with Cuba until it becomes a democracy.
Emerson believes the U.S. should lift travel restrictions and open up trade with Cuba.

People should Speak Out
MODOT will soon lobby the state legislature supporting rail passenger service, AMTRAK from St. Louis to Springfield, Branson, and Tulsa. Fifteen years of work went into promoting the effort. It’s critical people who want such service speak out.
Seven years of work went into promoting new job opportunities which is what people want. Changing of the second industrial park into a technology park by name and concept could bring new companies of the future. City utilities, the county, and the chamber have spent millions on the current industrial park which sets almost empty.
The State Audit is due next summer and uses the managerial accounting concepts and principles of looking at what areas need to be changed or improved. Company employees make suggestions, in this case the citizens, must have the chance to weigh in on doing things better. Accountability of city operations is the citizen’s right since they are supplying the monies to run the government. Any issues you have please email them to moaudit@auditor.mo.gov or call Donna Christian, audit manager at 1-800-347-8597.
A neighborhood organization for the Oak Grove area is being formed. Please go to: www.reedforcouncil.com to learn more about my campaign.
Merry Christmas to all!

Well Steven, I don't have much faith in City Council, what with the $16,000 a month per intersection red light cameras, the Heer's building folly, the million dollar embezzlement, the public feud between the prosecuting attorney and the judge...I know that's county... and the gang grand jury. What the heck are they thinking?
And Ralph Manley, our cheerleader who has given away more than 20,000 silver dollars, is running unopposed.
And how about the ice skating rink?
And how about founder's park?
And how about no teeth in the dog law?
And how about....oh heck, What a place! Makes me want to jump for Joy!
Time to do some changes in City Council...

As for Cuba... who wants to place bets on who will weep openly when Fidel kicks the bucket?
Bet you a Krispy Kreme donut they're ALL left of center...
