Montee Attacks Thomas Fundraising

The Democratic candidate for State Auditor shot off a press release Thursday boasting about her latest fundraising numbers.

Susan Montee reported raising $109,344 between July 28th and September 2nd. She reported that her Republican opponent, Sandra Thomas, raised $64,750 during the same period.

"We are proud to have raised so much money from so many individuals," Montee campaign manager Sean Spence said in the release. "Unfortunately for Sandra Thomas, individual donors are showing very little faith in her candidacy. Sandra Thomas' lack of support can be directly attributed to fears Missourians have about her competence and ability to be the state's financial watchdog."

Montee campaign manager Spence then blasts Thomas because 47% of her contributions from this report came from three Republican Party committees. "(It) calls into question the level of independence Thomas would have in auditing the Blunt administration and other Republicans," Spence said.

He lists Thomas' contributions as follows: $12,750 from the 32nd Republican Legislative District Committee, $12,775 from the 7th District Congressional Republican Committee and $5,000 from the 17th Republican Senatorial Committee.

Spence says Montee has more individual donors, and more donors contributing $100 or less.
