National Review: Talent vs. McCaskill "A Tossup"

National Review, the biweekly Bible for the conservative movement, has now moved Missouri's Senate race from "Republican leaning" to a "tossup."

John J. Miller writes that the race between Sen. Jim Talent and Claire McCaskill will be "very close."

Below is the excerpt:

MISSOURI: Republican senator Jim Talent faces a strong challenge from Democratic state auditor Claire McCaskill. Talent's two previous statewide contests - a losing race for governor in 2000 and a winning race for the Senate in 2002 - have been very close. This one will be as well. A new poll in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch gives McCaskill the lead, 49 percent to 43 percent. TOSS UP

Back in March, Miller mentioned Talent's potential problems with his conservative base after withdrawing support from a bill to ban cloning, yet he still gave Talent the upperhand.

Not anymore.

It seems that the pundits are giving more credence to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch poll than the recent Zogby poll that gave Talent a 5 point lead. Maybe it's because Zogby predicted Kerry to beat Bush?
